I'll adress some of your questions further down but first let me give
you the VLT priorities as I see things at this moment after checking the
tiles:
Best bets are:
S02-002 (23.80, host 23.03; 13.5 sigma)
S02-024 (24.55, host 22.57; 7.1 sigma)
S02-001 (24.57, host 23.45; 6.6 sigma)
The hosts of 016 and 018 are relatively bright, about 21.8 and are
therefore likely to be too close (I can prepare a plot on this
after my teaching today). 007 and 023 candidates were pretty
close to core and could be AGNs.

No, I have used standard Cousins I. This is a compromise, as I
was planning to use the same set of simulations for CFHT that has
a filter that goes further into the red... To account for the possible
differences also w.r.t calibration I made pretty wide bins in the
the plot, 0.3 mag. I am assuming the uncertainty will land in that
ballpark.
