    There are two reductions for 9878/SN1998de -- I was using the first one.
    I missed the reduction of SN 1998de that Lifan found (labled ap2), but now
    I ran it through my program, and I get results consistent with his:

    My apologies for missing the better reduction. We both agree that the first
    reduction is ambiguious but this one (ap2) looks reasonably like a Ia.

    It still does not meet the usual criteria for an "unassailable" Ia,
    since there is no
    definitive SiII, or SII, but given the colors, light curve, and a
    reasonable match
    to the spectrum which agrees in epoch with the LC fit, I don't have much
    doubt
    about it. I would bet $100 that is a Ia.

    It is up to you, Rob, what to do with it. If you want to put it back
    with the Ia's with
    no questions about them, that would be fine with me. If you want to
    leave it out of
    certain fits, that is ok too.
