    Let me add in follow-up to Alex's comment on the Keck spectrum of SN1999av
    that in talking with the galaxy people here in Lyon I found that SN1999av
    could still be an elliptical a fair fraction of ellipticals do in fact
    show emission in their centers.

    The techically the imaging tells you the morphological type in any
    case, with the spectrum telling you about the stellar populqtions that
    are present. In my visit to Lisboa, Ana expressed interest in studying
    the Spring 1999 host galaxies once she has completed the U-band
    photometry.
