Hi Chris,
c.c.deepnews
Saul, Greg, Kentaro, Nobunari, Tomoki and I got together tonight
at Subaru building, and talked the future plan for follow-up obs.
Since Saul and Greg are leaving Hawaii soon, I made a summary here.
Though I summarize the plan, I didn't include detailed information
for HST follow-up plan, which I am not very much familiar with. I
rather focus on the ground based follow-up plan especially for
next 1 month. Please tell us how you think about the following plan.
As Greg sent an e-mail this morning, we will get light curves
of the following three targets with ACS (5 visits) and NIR photometry
with NICMOS.
(A)
SuF02-012(z=1.3or1.5)
SuF02-065(z=1.18)
SuF02-060(z=1.063)
Among these three, we will take grism spectra of the following
two SNe.
SuF02-012: to get redshift using continuum shape at around 1micron
SuF02-060: to get better S/N sepctrum
In addition to these three, we want to get light curves and colors
of the following two high-z targets with HST and with ground based
telescopes.
(B)
SuF02-071(z=0.928)
SuF02-017(z=1.0)
The current plan to follow these are
1)NIR photometry
SuF02-071(J=23.2-23.7) Nov.15 ISAAC J
SuF02-017(J=23.3-23.8) Nov.16 CISCO J, Nov.29 ISAAC J
Here I wrote approximate dates.
On the Nov.29/30 we want to carry out photometry of
017 again to get color (with ACS) and NIR light curve.
2)optical light curve
SuF02-071 Nov.18(ACS) Nov.27(Suprime-Cam) Dec.6(Suprime-Cam)
SuF02-017 Nov.27(Suprime-Cam) Dec.28(HST) Dec.6(FORS2, Suprime-Cam)
071 is in overlapped area of SXDS1 and SXDS5 and exposures with
Suprime-Cam will be twice compared with 017 which is only in SXDS1.
(We will follow only SXDS1 and SXDS5 with Suprime-Cam.)
So if you spend 2-3 hours for 017 with FORS2, that would be very
nice. Also in case the weather is bad, and we can't do photometry
with Suprime-Cam, we would like to put more FORS2 time to do
photometry of these two SNe. FORS2 can probably do deep photometry
of these two targets after the periods above.
We also think it would be a good idea to measure J-band color
at similar redshifts, especially to estimate extinction effects
using CMAGIC technique. Suprime-Cam will make optical light curve of
the following SNe. We want to do J-band (I-band in rest frame)
photometry wiht ISAAC and with CISCO.
(C)
SuF02-025(z=0.606) CISCO J
SuF02-082(z=0.623) CISCO J
SuF02-001(z=0.57) ISAAC Jshort/ CISCO J
SuF02-019(z=0.505) ISAAC Jshort
We want to integrate targets until S/N ~ 20
(where systematic errors may become important at least for CISCO).
If we write down the schedule in time sequence,
Nov.14-19 CISCO J SuF02-017 SuF02-025 SuF02-082 SuF02-001?
Nov.15-17 ISAAC J SuF02-071 (save time for SuF02-017 on the 29th)
Nov.18-20 ACS i/z SuF02-071
Nov.26 FORS2 I SuF02-017 (+ 071?<-- Mauna Kea weather forcast)
Nov.27-28 Sup-C i' SXDS1 SXDS5
Nov.28-30 ACS i/z SuF02-017
Nov.29-30 ISAAC SuF02-017, SuF02-019
Dec.3 ISAAC SuF02-017, SuF02-019
Dec.6-7 Sup-C SCDS1, SXDS5
Dec.6-10 FORS2 SuF02-017 + more (depending on weather)
Dec.8-12 ISAAC We probably used up the time..
.... FORS2 SuF02-017, SuF02-071 if time available
We need close contact between you and us, telling each other
which targets we finished, how the weather look like, etc.
For CISCO observations, Kentaro Motohara is in charge,
since M.Doi is leaving Hawaii for Japan on the 16th.
Kentaro will be in one of the below three
remote observation room (night in Hawaii) 1-808-934-5059
library (afternoon in Hawaii) 1-808-934-5072
room for stay 1-808-959-6097
kmotohara@ioa.s.u-tokyo.ac.jp
For Suprime-Cam observations, Naoki Yasuda is in charge.
office: 81-422-34-3579
naoki.yasuda@nao.ac.jp
Also we would like to have a video/phone meeting on the 22nd
(in Chile) including LBNL and Subaru people, if you are
convenient. Please tell us your schedule.
Kentaro Motohara and M.Doi will be in Chile (Atacama, Las
Campanas, and Santiago) from Nov.24 to Dec.13.
Cheers,
-Mamoru
