sntrak -- keeping track of candidates

sntrak is "fully" functional. You can make edits and save your edits
(e.g. add comments, change redshifts, change follow priorities, etc.).
Please use this tool with care and don't enter bad information into the
database-- but please also keep it up to date. If a "decision" is made
about a candidate, a comment should be entered into sntrak which
describes that decision.

You will probably see some debugging text when you save changes to a
candidate. Don't worry about that.

Sntrak is at:

  http://lilys.lbl.gov/deepdb/sntrak/

Note that the current relevant supernova sets are:

  C02 -- CFHT supernovae
  S02 -- Subaru supernovae
  T02 -- CTIO supernovae

To add new candidates to the database, go to:

  http://lilys.lbl.gov/deepdb/sntrak/addcan.html

Whoever is coordinating the followup should be in charge of making sure
that sntrak has up to date information about candidates.

To make finding charts available, there are two options:

  (1) Put them on the web somewhere and add the link to the finding
chart in the candidate's entry in sntrak.

  (2) Make a finding chart. ftp to panisse.lbl.gov, cd into directory
"incoming/spring2002/finding", and put your finding chart there.
Send E-mail to *all* of the addresses below with the name of your
finding chart files and which candidate it refers to. One or more
of those people will put the finding charts into the web space at
LBL and put a link in sntrak.

             wmwood-vasey@lbl.gov
             aconley@panisse.lbl.gov

Make sure you keep the follow-up coordinator fully informed as to the
status of your candidates! At the moment, that is Saul and Ariel.
Later, that will be me. This is the most important step, since no
automated system will be able to substitue for a thinking person able to
deal with unexpected situations when it comes to keeping track of
candidates from three searches at the same time. Do not wait until the
last minute and send a list to the current spectral telescope, or
everything will fall apart. It is very important to keep the follow-up
coordinator fully informed. That person should in turn make sure sntrak
is up to date so anybody can see which candidates are still viable
candidates, and find what finding charts are available for them.
