The Humboldt-University offers an excellent environment for research in astroparticle-physics with activities in HESS, MAGIC and IceCube. The IceCube detector, located at the South Pole, has just started taking its first year science data and after completion, will be nearly two orders of magnitude more sensitive then current high energy neutrino detectors. The newly established Emmy Noether-junior research Group (DFG) has openings for two PhD positions to work on this project. The successful candidates will analyze the data of IceCube and search for an astrophysical neutrino flux. He or she will further contribute to the simulation and/or offline reconstruction and filtering efforts.
Candidates should hold a qualifying degree in physics and have a specialization in elementary particle physics and/or astrophysics. Software skills (C++, Linux) and experience in data analysis or simulation would be a benefit.
