Collisions with an Isothermal Sphere
click on the above image to see a movie of the simulation
Note : you are looking down at the gas of the
galaxy as it collides with the Isothermal Sphere. The simulation shows the
formation of a ring structure after it collides with the perturber.
We consider the collision of a disk galaxy with a Truncated Isothermal
Sphere.
- the density profile of the isothermal sphere is given by:
- the impact parameter, b = 5 kpc
- initial distance from the center of the perturber = 100 kpc
- velocity of disk galaxy towrds the perturber = 200 km/s
- mass of the prturber is approximately 1/5 the mass of the disk
- The Truncation Radius of the perturber is 10 kpc
