Co-Director, Institute for Nuclear and Particle Astrophysics, Lawrence
Berkeley National Laboratory INPA serves as a bridge between Divisions at Berkeley Lab, bringing together research groups in neutrino physics, astrophysics, particle physics, and cosmology. New initiatives include crossdisciplinary weekly discussions and the Computational Cosmology Center (C3) suite. |
|
Director (LBL campus), Berkeley Center for Cosmological Physics BCCP is a joint effort between UC Berkeley and LBL, directed by George Smoot, with research groups spanning the two institutions. Coordination of LBL activities includes joint seminars and design of a new Cosmology wing. |
|
Distinguished Professor, Ewha Womans University World Class University program of the Korean Ministry for Education, Science, and Technology; and Institute for the Early Universe, dedicated to investigating fundamental physics in the universe, searching for the origins of dark energy, and developing innovative space technology. |

Head, Theory Group, Supernova/Acceleration Probe (SNAP) SNAP is a next generation satellite exploring dark energy and the accelerating universe, as well as providing a deep, wide, and colorful survey for astrophysics. I coordinate theory for the international collaboration, from high energy physics to gravitation, and organize community workshops on new concepts and observational probes. |
|
Author, First Principles of Cosmology First Principles of Cosmology is an innovative senior/graduate level textbook based on teaching cosmology through a strong grounding in physical concepts and abundant use of analogies. |
Science Resources
Detailed selection of lectures, FAQs, and other teaching resources,
together with recent research articles, notes, and more.
Education/Training/Outreach
Active roles in teacher training from the high school to college
and professional crossdisciplinary levels, as well as public audience
talks. These include through
the national QuarkNet program and as full member of the Contemporary
Physics Education Project, producer of wallcharts and websites used in
more than 20,000 classrooms, as well as a Shapley Lecturer of the
American Astronomical Society to underserved institutions.
Project Development
Supervision of initiatives such as the Computational Cosmology Center
suite, colocating researchers from computer science, cosmology, and
astrophysics, and development of a new building wing bringing diverse
research groups in cosmology together in an open floor plan.
