Rough schematic of searches. Reference/template dates are given in (). Dates are indicated if known, otherwise an estimate of the number of nights is given. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Search: Dec Jan Feb Mar Apr Area #SNe Lead z < 0.1 -------------------------------------------------------------------------- QUEST --- --- (18-21) 06-26 --- 300 8.4 Schaeffer Mosaic 13-15 --- 22-24 05-09 --- 500 10.0 Smith (08-12) --- (25-26) El Roble --- 19-26 05-12 08-18 2*2000 10.8 Maza (photographic) EROS --- (15-28) 10-20 10-20 --- 2*200 8.0 Rich/Kim (40%) 40% 40% INT (LBL) --- ( 0 ) 0 0 --- 0 0.0 service ( 0%) 0% 0% INT (WAS) ? ? ? ? ? 2*10 0.3 McMahon IAU 3 3 6 community ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- UBVRI Photometric followup: NOAO <------------------------ Sem 99A ---------------------------> ING <------------------------ Sem 99A ---------------------------> OCIW <------------------------- 1999 ----------------------------> ESO <--------- Period 62 --------->.<--------- Period 63 --------> Month H Feb99 Mar99 Apr99 May99 #SNe 20 30 30 10 #Epochs 5 10 10 10 #pts/filt 100 300 300 100 CTIO S 3p YALO 1.0 11p YALO 1.0 3p YALO 1.0 0 YALO 1.0 Team S 1 CTIO 0.9 4 CTIO 0.9 2 CTIO 0.9 0 CTIO 0.9 S 2 OGLE 1.2 6 OGLE 1.2 1 OGLE 1.2 0 OGLE 1.2 S 0 CTIO 1.5 0 CTIO 1.5 5 CTIO 1.5 0 CTIO 1.5 QUEST N ? The idea would be to make some fields equatorial so N and S telescope can monitor them. However, there are advantages, mainly avoidance of the moon, which might require some southern fields to be at more like -40. * indicates LBL guarenteed time The search could yield over 60 SNe if everything goes right and the rates are correct. The plan is to follow ~ 30 SNe in detail. The nearer SNe are easier to follow than farther SNe, so farther SNe many simply be followed with photometry in B and V after being confirmed spectroscopically The intent is to use the larger telescopes for follow-up when the moon is bright and/or the SNe have faded. Examination of KPNO 4-m schedule indicates that in 5 months, RCSP was on telescope in 3 blocks. The average allocation was about 3.3 nights. Examination of CTIO 4-m schedule indicates that in 2 months, RCSP was on telescope in 2 blocks. The average allocation was about 3.3 nights. Examination of ESO 3.6-m schedule indicates that EFOSC is on the telescope quite regularly. Allocations tend to be small. Examination of Lick 120-in schedule indicates that KAST is on the telescope quite regularly. Allocations tend to be large (Alex gets 6 nights/sem, Graham 8, Tytler 5, Zaritsky 4, van Breugel 9, Spinrad 6, ....). At NOT, it appears to be relatively common for nights to be shared. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal writing responsibilities for facilities with upcoming deadlines: Search: Facilitiy Request Who --------------------------------------------------------------------------- EROS half of 7 nights in Jan, Feb, & Mar no proposal due?
