CALIBRATION FIELDS and FOLLOWUP for SUPERNOVA COSMOLOGY PROJECT EARLY MAY 1997 ---> All filters are Harris R and Harris I. All Epochs are 2000. This is a blanket list to cover both photometric calibration and followup. This is the basic Plan. You should probably speak with us once if anything is unclear, and to check for any last minute updates to The Plan. CALIBRATION PROCEDURE --------------------- Intersperse Landolt fields with 5min (on 4m telescope) or 30min (e.g. 2x15min) exposures of the target fields. Get some Landolt fields at airmasses ranging from 1-2. Landolt calibration stars we use are typically magnitude 12-16. Do both R and I for all standard stars. Target fields listed with filter "I, (R)" really require both, but if you are severely strapped for time drop the R band exposure. Calibration Priority is 2-4; higher priority means we want it more. (I.e. do the 4's over the lower prority ones if you have to choose.) For data tapes, DAT are preferred, but Exabyte are usable. If we can ftp the data from a site right after the observations, sned mail to deepnews@lbl.gov with the information where we might find it. "What To Do" Priority is as follows: ------------------------------------ (A) If this is the first photometric night of the run or telescope is 0.9m, do as many target fields with the calibration procedure as possible. (B) If a previous night was photometric, do the followup fields for which your telescope is listed as the primary followup telescope. If night is photometric, please also get Landolt fields to be used to calibrate these followup images, and any other calibration fields (using the calibration procedure above) for which there is time. (C) If night is not photometric, do followup fields, the ones assigned to your telescope at higher priority than the ones assigned to other telescopes. Do the ones assigned to other telescopes as time permits. Suggested Landolt fields (also use ones optimized for your observatory): Landolt Field RA(2000) Dec(2000) ------------- -------- --------- SA98_627 06:51:53 -00:22:03 RU149 07:24:16 -00:31:30 RU152 07:29:56 -02:05:30 SA100_269 08:53:19 -00:41:10 SA101_342 09:57:31 -00:21:49 SA101_262 09:56:08 -00:29:48 PG1047+003 10:50:08 -00:01:00 SA104_460 12:43:03 -00:28:21 SA104_239 12:42:23 -00:42:32 (is just north of 239) SA107_602 15:39:19 -00:15:29 Internal use: criterea used for ranking the calibration fields we want: ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 4 = 96 field for which there is no photometric nights of calibration yet or 97 field with multiple high prio objects 3 = 97 high prio field or 96 field 2 = 97 medium prio field 1 = 97 low prio field 0 = 97 really low prio field Follow ExpTime | Calib | Who Candidate RA(2000) Dec(2000) z Prior Filters | Follows ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 976 08:21:57.11 +03:53:35.8 0.55 3 R,I 9732 08:22:57.37 +03:52:25.7 0.43 3 R,I 9710 08:23:50.01 +03:28:52.9 0.18 3 R,I 9781+9765+9733 08:23:58.94 +04:09:28.0 4 R 3x1000 ESO 9781 08:23:52.67 +04:08:44.1 0.58 I 3x1000 9733 08:24:02.49 +04:07:33.2 0.37 9765 08:24:05.21 +04:11:22.8 0.32 963 08:24:13.32 +03:24:58.7 0.47 3 I, (R) 9777 09:58:53.35 -00:20:28.8 0.59 3 R 3x800 WIYN I 3x900 9776 10:00:02.92 -00:23:30.5 0.73 3 R 3x1000 ESO I 3x1000 962 10:48:50.96 +00:03:30.6 0.57 3 I, (R) 9779 10:48:57.61 +00:31:50.3 0.45 3 R 3x600 ESO I 9794+9738 10:55:54.45 -03:57:55.0 3 R 3x800 WIYN 9794 10:55:52.98 -03:59:02.1 0.58 I 3x800 9738 10:55:55.89 -03:56:48.0 0.47 9742 10:56:51.44 -03:58:36.7 0.44 3 R,I 9621 10:56:59.12 -03:37:36.2 0.83 3 I, (R) 9793 10:56:53.15 -04:13:50.6 0.35 2 R 3x600 ESO I (Note -- do 9760 separate from 9739+97126 if your FOV is <9') 9760+126+39 10:57:35.38 -03:50:19.1 4 R 3x1000 ESO 97126+9739 10:57:47.77 -03:46:32.3 3 I 3x1000 9760 10:57:19.20 -03:54:51.5 0.65 97126 10:57:43.97 -03:47:17.9 0.49 9739 10:57:51.57 -03:45:46.7 0.65 97102+9785 10:57:30.92 -03:14:18.8 3 R 3x1000 ESO 97102 10:57:30.31 -03:14:49.5 0.62 I 3x1000 9785 10:57:31.52 -03:13:48.1 0.42 964 11:59:37.73 -09:54:34.0 0.57 4 I, (R) 9617 12:48:35.18 -00:46:02.8 0.66 3 I, (R) 969 13:45:56.16 +02:26:53.9 0.50 3 I, (R) (Note -- if FOV>7', do 4SNe below, otherwise do 9784+97129 and 9782+9611 as two separate fields) 4SNe 13:47:23.86 +02:25:47.6 4 R,I 9784+97129 13:47:09.90 +02:25:47.6 9784 13:47:09.90 +02:23:57.7 0.83 97129 13:47:09.90 +02:27:37.4 0.51 9782+9611 13:47:34.90 +02:26:15.6 3 R,I 9782 13:47:31.98 +02:26:16.2 0.36 9611 13:47:37.81 +02:26:15.1 0.19 9626 13:48:27.22 +02:27:46.8 0.44 4 I, (R) 9624 15:30:11.25 +05:55:27.2 0.45 4 I, (R) ********************************************************************** For followup, WIYN should do this field (calibration, see 4SNe above) Average coord: 13:44:48.54 +02:40:44 R 3x1000 WIYN 97129 13:44:37.52 +02:42:34 0.51 I 3x1000 9784 13:44:37.49 +02:38:55 0.83 9782 13:44:59.60 +02:41:12 0.36
