    Hi Ariel,

    In /home/astro35/aldering/papers/99as/modeling/SB99_all you will find
the stellar+nebular continuum spectra for starbursts of various ages
and metallicities. We are interested in the instantaneous burst models
    with a normal IMF. These are in the files;

      fig1a.dat
      fig1b.dat
      fig1c.dat
      fig1d.dat
      fig1e.dat

Each of these files gives log(flux) as a function of wavelength for
starbursts of various ages. The flux at each age is in a separate
column of the table. The ages range from 1 Myr to 900 Myr. The
different files a-e are for different metallicites. fig1b.dat is
    solar metallicity.

According to these models, for a instantaneous starburst the SN rate
drops strongly after 40 Myr. The Type Ia's should turn on after about 1
Gyr, so we have a buffer from 40 -1000 Myr into which a reddened young
starburst could slide without throwing off this test.

I suppose the thing to do is to calculate the fluxes for the HST
filters for a few redshifts and then see which of these models
fits the best. Contours of best-fitting age versus redshift and
metallicity would be even better. One caveat is that some emission
lines are not shown (I'm not sure why); in particular OII3727 is
not present. Thus, the model predictions might underestimate the
total flux in a 1000A wide filter covering 3727A by 10%. (Put
another way, the EW of 3727 is usually never more that 100A.)

Let me know if you have any questions.

    - Greg

P.S. /home/astro35 may not be mounted on all of our machines. It
can definitely be seen from europa or filippos.
