Ok, I've looked at the binned residual plots further. I think it is
best to do more averaging. Bins of 0.1 in z seem appropriate, and if
all the low-z guys end up in one bin, that's fine by me. I think we
should make the residual plot linear in z anyway, since the current log
form emphasizes the part of the Hubble diagram without signal and with
1/4 of the space devoted to SNe whose residuals are dominated by
peculiar velocities.
Also, has anyone noticed that the chi-by-eye from the residuals at low
redshift is much too good for the given error bars?
