    Hi Tony,
      Here is soime additional information.

    Cheers, Chris.

    Instruments
    ===========

    The first VLT telescope should be referred to as Antu (VLT-UT1).

    FORS1 on Antu (VLT-UT1) - Appenzeller, I. et al. ESO Messenger, 1998, 94, 1.

    EFOSC2 on the ESO 3.6m telescope.

    I have only a web address at the moment. I'll see if I can find something more
    appropriate. Perhaps you can use http://www.ls.eso.org/lasilla/sciops/efosc/ or
    just http://www.eso.org/.

    SN redhsifts
    ============

    Here is a short table that summarizes the ESO observations and IDs.

    IAUC Alternative z Inst. + Tel. Mode Redshift based on SiII 6150 SiII ~4000
    =============================================================================================================
    1998as 98122 0.355 EFOSC2 + ESO 3.6m Visitor [OIII] H_beta, H_alpha in host Yes Yes
    1998ax 98109 0.497 EFOSC2 + ESO 3.6m Visitor [OII] in host Yes Yes
    1998ba 9819 0.43 EFOSC2 + ESO 3.6m Visitor Supernova No Yes
    2000fr Beethoven 0.543 FORS1 + Antu (VLT-UT1) Service [OII] in host No Yes
    =============================================================================================================

    So, the redshift for 1998ba is measured from the SN features. All others
    (1998as, 1998ax, 200fr) are measured from host lines. Also, the redshift
    of the SN in these match the host redshift. The SNe type is secure if one
    uses the presence of SiII 6150 and/or SiII 4000 as a matching criterion. Andy
    and Peter may want to say more.

    Acknowledgments
    ================

    ESO likes us to acknowledge that we used its facilities.
    Please include the following footnote on the first page of the paper.

    Based on observations collected at the European Southern Observatory,
    Chile (ESO programmes 60.A-0586 and 265.A-5721).
