Physics Department, Stockholm University POSTDOCTORAL POSITION IN OBSERVATIONAL COSMOLOGY AND SUPERNOVA ASTROPHYSICS AT THE STOCKHOLM UNIVERSITY Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research position, forming part of the EC RTN network `Type Ia Supernovae'. It comprises 10 institutions in 6 countries and is dedicated to improve the knowledge of Type Ia supernovae as cosmological probes. For this position we are particularly looking for candidates with a recent PhD in physics or astronomy with experience in data analysis, astronomical observations and possibly computer simulations. The Stockholm Supernova Cosmology group is a part of the international Supernova Cosmology Project (SCP). The research goal of the SCP is to measure the energy density components of the universe, dark energy and dark matter in particular. Besides the observational work, there is a very active collaboration with the astroparticle theory group. The two groups have jointly developed a Monte-Carlo simulation package (SNOC), that is been used to quantify systematic effects related to the SNIa Hubble diagram, e.g. gravitational lensing and extinction by dust. Subject to the imminent completion of the EU RTN contract, the position will be available from 1 June 2002 but a later starting date is negotiable. The post will be for a period of 2 years. Owing to RTN rules, the post is only open to nationals of a European Union country (but not Sweden) or of an Associated State or to a candidate who has been a resident of the Community for at least the previous 5 years. Applicants should be age 35 or under. Salary will be paid in accordance with local regulations on the scale 25000 to 30000 Euro per annum. Applications should be sent to the address below and include a full CV, a publication list, a summary of current research interests. The applicant should arrange for three letters of recommendation to be sent directly to the address below. Inquiries may be addressed to Ariel Goobar, ariel@physto.se. Applications to arrive no later than 1 June 2002 should be sent to: Prof.Ariel Goobar SCFAB, Department of Physics Stockholm University S- 106 91 Stockholm Sweden Tel: +46(0)8 55378659 Fax: +46(0)8 55378601 e-mail: ariel@physto.se
