Science Interests
Research
My research intersts include cosmology, gravitational physics, and
gamma ray bursts. Areas of particular concentration are light
propagation in inhomogeneous universes, time delays in gravitational
lensing, cosmic microwave background decoupling and last scattering
epochs, metrics for clumpy universes, and gamma ray burst source
statistics. Here is my cv and UMass Astronomy
research blurb.
Communication
I am also quite interested in the communication and teaching of
science to students and general audiences.
- I am author of First Principles of
Cosmology, an introductory textbook (Addison-Wesley 1997).
- I have served as scientific consultant to the award winning
writer
Timothy
Ferris on his new popular cosmology book The
Whole Shebang: A State of the Universe(s) Report (Simon & Schuster
1997).
- Here is a cosmology FAQ (answers to
frequently asked questions) that I created.
Assorted
- Wave propagation in random media
- Seismology
